2011 Honda Civic

Choosing to buy a Civic is the easy part. The hard part is deciding which trim is right for you. The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. Rather than allow shoppers to select the options they want, Honda offers additional features to each trim level. One of the few optional features is the navigation system. Prices begin at $15,805 for the DX and reach $23,955 for the EX-L with navigation. Most shoppers will start with the DX-VP trim because it offers air conditioning. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, is also available and offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Honda Civic.

The 2010 Honda Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Honda Civic.

2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD

The Chevrolet Silverado HD received a serious overhaul for 2011, with an upgraded drivetrain, braking system, engines, and even a few tweaks to the exterior. The auto press is unanimous in its praise for these improvements, which they say have improved power, acceleration, steering, braking, ride comfort and stability. Chevrolet gave both gas- and turbodiesel-powered V8 engines more horsepower and torque, and tweaked the gear ratios to increase towing capacity to a maximum of 21,700 pounds. The turbodiesel engine is now B20-biodiesel compatible.

Chevrolet offers two different heavy-duty models, the 2500HD and the 3500HD. Each model comes in WT, LT, and LTZ trims, which range from pure-pickup utilitarian to upscale-sedan quality interiors. The 3500HD is also available with dual rear wheels if you opt for the “Big Dooley” trims. Dual rear wheels, sometimes called “duallies” or “doolies,” add increased traction and towing power. The base two-wheel drive, 2500HD WT starts at $28,415, and the most expensive 3500HD LTZ starts at about $30,000 and can be optioned to more than $63,000.

2011 Honda Accord

The Honda Accord was updated in 2010. That, however, hasn’t stopped Honda from updating it once more. For 2011, Honda has given the Accord a cosmetic refresh, improved aerodynamics, added a new trim and increased fuel economy.

Additionally, the 2011 Honda Accord can be had in a new leather-equipped Special Edition (SE) trim. The SE strikes a balance between value and luxury by providing leather, heated seats – with driver’s lumbar support – and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. 2011 Buick Regal

The Buick Regal is an all-new model for 2011.  For its initial rollout, the Regal is available only in its top-of-the-line CXL trim; next year the base CX and middle CXS trims will be available. The Regal enters the market with a 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine, but a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder will be available in late summer 2010. A performance tuned GS model will be available next year. The Regal is based on the Opel Insignia (which is available only in Europe) and shares some components with the well-liked Buick LaCrosse.  However, the Regal is smaller and sportier than the LaCrosse.

2011 Toyota Camry

The Camry was last redesigned for the 2008 model year. Some material used in this review may refer to earlier model years that are substantially similar. The Camry is available in a stripped-down base model, a better-equipped LE edition, a sport-tuned SE model and a top-of-the-line XLE trim level. The 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid, a close variant of the gas-only Camry, is reviewed separately.

Shoppers might want to note that 2007 through 2010 Camry sedans were included in a pair of massive and highly-publicized recalls due to allegations that a Camry, under certain conditions, could accelerate even when its driver wasn’t touching the gas pedal. A Toyota spokesperson tells us that the 2011 Camry’s accelerator pedal is a new design that's not affected by the recalls. The 2011 Toyota Camry is also one of the first Toyotas to feature a new brake override system, which ensures that the engine can’t cause the car to accelerate while the brake pedal is being pressed. There have been no allegations of unintended acceleration regarding the 2011 Toyota Camry, but it has only been on the market for a very short time.

2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid comes standard with various features to keep you and your family safe. Three different airbags were built in to protect from injury in case of an accident. There are front air bags for both the driver and right passenger. There are also head curtain side-impact air bags, which are designed to reduce the chance of head and new injury. The last ones are seat-mounted side-impact air bags to provide passengers with thorax and pelvic protection.

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid is available in two well-equipped trims. The 1HY comes standard with such luxuries as Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control, a soft tonneau cover for the bed to improve aerodynamics, and a trailering package for towing. Upgraded 2HY models cost almost $6,000 more but add a standard navigation system, Bose premium stereo, leather seating, and a hard tonneau cover that replaces the soft cover on 1HY models. Unlike most other trucks, it is only available in one configuration: a four-door crew cab with a six-foot short bed. A 6.0-liter V8 is standard. For 2011, the Silverado Hybrid gains enhancements to help reduce wind noise.
